about: Semente

Semente is a visual artist, writer, poet, teacher, capoeirista, playwright, model, dancer, + performer originally from São Paulo, Brazil.

Semente received a B.A from Brandeis University with double majors in International and Global studies and African and Afro-American Studies, and double minors in Latin American and Latino Studies, and Women and Gender Studies in 2015.


In 2017, they completed an M.A. in African and African Diaspora Studies at The University of Texas at Austin.

Semente has completed a 200-hour Trauma-Informed-Healing-Centered Community Yoga certification through The Amala Foundation.

Semente is currently:


completing their PhD in African and African Diaspora Studies at The University of Texas at Austin.

Semente is also a Collective Member at Treasure City Thrift.

Semente has been training capoeira with Capoeira Luanda since 2016, dances with Kinetic Vogue + has been practicing yoga for over 10 years and will soon begin teaching.

creating engaging written work + facilitating access to literary education for all, especially communities of color, is a goal of this work through:
